How much
homework will my child have every night?
On average, your child will have
about 30 minutes of assigned homework, in addition to the required
30 minutes of nightly reading for the book log. Occasionally
we will assign long-term projects to be completed at home.
Homework is usually not given on Fridays.

When
do graded papers go home?
Papers are sent home each Monday in
the Take Home Envelope. The previous week's homework and
assessments will be placed in the envelope. Please
review all the papers with your child, sign it, and return it to school
the next day.
Back to questions
How
many minutes should my child read each night?
Fourth graders should read a
minimum of 30 minutes per night. Minutes should be recorded
on your child's book log. These are turned in at the end of
the nine weeks.

Can
I count the minutes I read aloud to my child on the book log?
Feel free to count minutes you
spend reading aloud to your child. Reading aloud to older
children is a wonderful way to spend time together as a family.
If you haven't read to your child lately, check out the Read
Aloud Treasury for book suggestions. Research has
proven that a child's listening comprehension is approximately 2
years higher than his reading comprehension, so go ahead and read
some harder books together. You may find that this becomes
your favorite time of day.

B = 80% - 89%

What
are Sitton spelling words?
These words are
high frequency words that students use most in their writing.
Fourth graders are responsible for mastering words 260 - 400 on
the Sitton High Frequency Word List. We will practice 5 of
these words each week. We will also complete weekly review
sheets to check how well we remember these words. These
words are NOT on the weekly spelling test. The spelling
grade on the report card is determined by averaging the weekly
test grades with the Sitton review sheet scores.

What
are the class rules/ classroom management?
 |
It is my
belief that classroom rules must be generated by both students and
the teacher based on the needs and personalities of the class each
year.
|
 |
Positive
discipline is used along with many other strategies as the needs
arise.

Weekly
assignment sheets are distributed each Monday, maintained
daily, and sent home for parent review on the following Monday.
Parents are notified weekly, on this sheet, of student progress and
concerns.
|
 |
Parents
are encouraged to contact the teacher at any time by e-mail,
voice mail, or by setting up a conference over the
telephone, or in person, whenever they have concerns about
their child's progress.

What
is the Homework Policy?
Homework is designed to provide practice
on skills presented during the school day. Students are expected
to complete assignments on time and turn them in as
directed. When assignments are not complete, students
may be asked to complete the assignment during non-instructional
times such as recess, or take them home again to complete and
return the following school day. Students should not spend
more than 30 minutes on completing homework, as well as an
additional 30 minutes on reading.
Back to questions
What
is the Attendance Policy ?
Students are
expected to arrive on time each day. Instruction begins upon their arrival
with activities to reinforce current subject matter. Frequent
tardies and absences may have an adverse affect on student progress and
mastery of skills. When students are absent, please send a note explaining
the reason for the absence upon their return to school. These notes
determine whether the absence was excused or un-excused. Students
may make up class work when an excused absences is recorded.
In the event that
the student is absent for an extended period of time, please notify the
school and request your child's work. This will enable him or her to
keep up with the class and not fall behind. If they are only missing one
day, it is not necessary to request work.
